It’s time for the ladies to shine in Jazz!

December 1, 2011

When I am out and about at various jazz events in Charlotte, I often get asked the question,”When are you going to host some female jazz artists?”  In most cases when you think of jazz music, you think of a smoke filled room and a jazz trio performing, which consist of male performers and possibly a female singer.
Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE ALL JAZZ -no matter who is playing but, when I took a moment to think back to all of my shows, I must admit I can’t recall bring many female artists here to perform in Charlotte for the Carolina Jazz Concert Series, The Uptown Charlotte Jazz Fest, The Low Country Jazz Festival or other events.
There are so many great female jazz artists that I listen to: i.e.  Pamela Williams, Mindi Abair, Candy Dulfer, Esperanza Spalding, and Terri Lyne Carrington, just to name a few.  I believe it’s time to show the ladies some love!
Help me out here……Would you support a concert with a female artist as the headliner? (I mean FULL SUPPORT)  Who would you like to see?
I would love to hear your feedback….
